Enjoying an independent life
I moved into supported living with Supported Homes in Blackburn in November 2009. I have lived in various establishments previous to this. I am supported very well here with living skills such as cooking, cleaning and laundry.
I enjoy living here as I can lead an independent life, with as much or as little support as I want. I enjoy going out alone and with staff. I like to go to lots of various concerts, car boot sales and day trips out. I also enjoy walking and exercising with staff.
Around the house I enjoy participating in the healthy lifestyle group which is a cooking group. I also like to bake, make art and teach the staff and service user’s tai-chi. I enjoy spending one to one time with the staff.
I have several friends who I like to keep in touch with via telephone, mail and meeting up. It makes me happy to be able to phone them whenever I want.
I have a diagnosis of schizophrenia and experience high anxiety levels. At times I feel very unmotivated. Staff are there to support me through these difficult times.
Since moving into supported living with Supported Homes I feel I have achieved a lot, I am more confident, independent and have learnt how to reduce my anxiety levels slightly. I have completed a basic computer course, in which I received a certificate and in the future I hope to complete a more advanced computer course.
